Space Foundation Educator Visits Local School for Science Day

In ongoing efforts to inspire students in the STEAM fields (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), the Space Foundation sent Space Education Specialist Slade Bradbury to visit local grade school, Jackson Elementary, for Science Day on Friday, Jan. 12. Throughout the day, students went from one class to another learning various science topics. The Space Foundation brought straw rocket kits for the student to design and launch. Each pairing of students was given two opportunities to launch their straw rocket, allowing for a short remodel session in between launches.

After each launch, Slade and the students discussed what could be done to improve the trajectory of the rocket, including the angle of liftoff and fin design. It was emphasized to the students that testing is critical in the process of actual rocket launches to ensure the safety of the cargo and possible crew aboard any mission.
