CSU-P Grant Funds Space Foundation Courses

Written by: developer

Colorado State University-Pueblo (CSU-P) was awarded a $1.2 million grant as part of the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program through the National Science Foundation. The grant will fund one Space Across the Curriculum course each summer for the next five years, as well as placing CSU-P and Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC) students with the Space Foundation education team as summer interns.

The Space Foundation participated in the writing and submittal of the grant, which addresses the shortage of math teachers and provides for professional development opportunities of pre-service and in-service teachers, as well as internship opportunities for CSU-P and PPCC students.

The award complements the agreement CSU-P and the Space Foundation signed last month that covered distance education, internships, pre-service and in-service instruction as well as collaborative research and service opportunities.

An internationally recognized advocate for space and education, the Space Foundation offers a wide variety of programs focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Its flagship program is a series of graduate-level Space Across the Curriculum courses that provide PreK-12 educators nationwide with standards-based concepts, teaching tools and hands-on lessons ready for the classroom.
