Space Foundation Discovery Center Features "Colorado Days" July 30 – Aug. 3

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 29, 2013) - Celebrate Colorado's statehood with "Colorado Days" at the Discovery Center in Colorado Springs, July 30 - Aug. 3. Festivities will include the opening on July 30 of a new space exhibit displaying satellite images of Earth, on loan from Colorado company DigitalGlobe.

The Space Foundation's Discovery Center is the region's only space, science and technology attraction, and is open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. Located at 4425 Arrowswest Dr., the Discovery Center is just off of Garden of the Gods Rd., west of Centennial Blvd.

Throughout the Week at the Discovery Center, July 30 - Aug. 3

  • Free admission for Colorado natives (people born in Colorado)
  • Bring the grandparents and receive a special gift for families with three generations of native Coloradans
  • Displays and giveaways by Colorado companies and businesses
  • Science On a Sphere® demonstrations
  • Space exhibits and artifacts, including a Moon rock and the "Launch to the Moon" exhibit
  • NASA visiting exhibit "Space Shuttle: Conquering Low Earth Orbit" (pictured)

Saturday, Aug. 3, "Colorado Days" Family Activities at the Discovery Center

  • Free tote bag for first 150 children on Saturday
  • Free admission for Colorado natives
  • Gift for families with three generations of native Coloradans
  • Meet your favorite Star Wars characters
  • 11:00 a.m. presentation - "The First Space Race," Colorado author Matt Bille will discuss his book of the same name
  • Displays and giveaways by Colorado companies
  • Design a Colorado-themed mission patch
  • "Find My House from Space" activity
  • Launch stomp rockets
  • Science On a Sphere® demonstrations (pictured)
  • Bounce house for young children

About the Space Foundation Discovery Center
Daily admission is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors (age 65+), $7 for college students with I.D., $3 for children ages 4-17. Children age three years and younger are admitted free. Admission is free with military I.D., to those impacted by Colorado wildfires and to first responders.

The Space Foundation Discovery Center is a collection point for Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado. The public may bring food donations to the Space Foundation Discovery Center between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays. Anyone bringing a food donation will receive a $2 off admission coupon to the Discovery Center.

Summer of Discovery co-sponsors are 501st Legion, Drive SunShine Institute, ScienSonic and Wendy's. ATK and Snappy Print are printing co-sponsors.
