Bednarek, Livanos join Space Foundation Board

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Mar. 10, 2005) — The Space Foundation announced today that Mr. Robert `Rob` Bednarek, executive vice president, corporate development, SES GLOBAL, and Dr. Alexis Livanos, corporate vice president and president, Space Technology Sector, Northrop Grumman, have joined the Space Foundation Board of Directors.

Bednarek was unanimously elected by the Space Foundation Board at its 2005 annual meeting. Livanos was appointed to the board upon the resignation of Mr. Wes Bush, who was recently named chief financial officer of Northrop Grumman.

At SES Global, Bednarek is responsible for developing and implementing the company’s overall growth strategy including mergers and acquisitions, new product and service introductions and formation of joint ventures or other types of affiliations. Previously, he served as executive vice president and chief technology officer at PanAmSat Corporation. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida.

Livanos is responsible for the operations of Northrop Grumman’s Space Technology sector, which develops a broad range of systems at the leading edge of space, defense, and electronics technology. He most recently served as sector vice president and divisions general manager, Systems Development and Technology and Space Sensors Divisions for the company’s Electronic Systems sector. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master’s Degree in Engineering Science, and a Doctorate in Engineering Science and Physics from the California Institute of Technology.

The Space Foundation Board also re-elected the following members to three-year terms: Gen Howell M. Estes, III, USAF (Retired), Howell Estes & Associates, Inc; Mr. William MacDonald “Mac” Evans, former president, Canadian Space Agency; Mr. Paul Graziani, president and chief executive officer, Analytical Graphics, Inc., and Mr. Lon C. Levin, co-founder and senior vice president, XM Satellite Radio, and vice president, Mobile Satellite Ventures.

The chairman of the board of the Space Foundation is Mr. John B. Higginbotham, chairman, SpaceVest. Additional executive committee members include Mr. Elliot G. Pulham, president and chief executive officer, Space Foundation; The Honorable Robert S. Walker, chairman, Wexler & Walker Public Policy Associates; Dr. Jaleh Daie, managing partner, Aurora Equity LLC; and Gen Thomas S. Moorman, Jr., USAF (Retired), vice president, Booz Allen Hamilton.

Also serving on the Space Foundation Board of Directors are Dr. William F. Ballhaus, Jr., president and chief executive officer, The Aerospace Corporation; Dr. Guion S. Bluford, Jr., Aerospace Technology Group; Mr. Lou Dobbs, Lou Dobbs Tonight; Mr. Marc L. Holtzman, president, University of Denver; Mr. Richard P. MacLeod, president emeritus, Space Foundation; Ms. Joanne M. Maguire, vice president and deputy, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company; Mr. Michael I. Mott, vice president and general manager, The Boeing Company, NASA Systems; Gen John L. Piotrowski, USAF (Retired), vice president, Science Applications International Corporation; VADM Richard H. Truly, USN (Retired), former director, National Renewable Energy Laboratory; and Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, astrophysicist, Rose Center for Earth and Space.
