Blue Planet - Green Living

Earth observation satellites help us identify, track and deal with environmental challenges. Environmental clean-up, water purification, alternate energy sources and other technologies that help us live "green" all benefit from the space program.

Test Drive an ELECTRIC CAR!

On Saturday, June 29, come to the Space Foundation Discovery Center to test drive an electric vehicle like the Chevy Volt or Nissan Leaf. Enjoy rapid acceleration with power generated by solar or wind. The cars will be provided by the Drive SunShine Institute (DSI) whose mission is to speed the adoption of fast electric vehicles powered by renewable energy.

To celebrate the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, you'll be able to do the Space Foundation Hill Climb. Feel the power as you drive an electric car up a nearby hill, then watch electricity recharge the battery as you descend! And, find out how you can get solar for your home and cut your electric bill. Learn more at www.drivesunshine.org.

Pictured: Like the Apollo mission Luna Rover (right), the all electric Nissan LEAF (left) doesn't even have a gas tank! During the Summer of Discovery, you can test drive electric vehicles like the LEAF and Chevy Volt at the Space Foundation Discovery Center on Saturday, June 29.

Boulder Bike Blenders

On Saturday, June 29, you will also be able to peddle your way to a healthy snack on a special stationary Boulder Bike Blender. Burn calories while you blend your own organic bike-powered fruit smoothie. The smoothies will be free with the first 100 admissions to the Discovery Center on Saturday, June 29.
