2013 International Student Art Contest

The 2013 Space Foundation International Student Art Contest theme If I Were Going… challenged PreK through 12th grade students worldwide to imagine how they would personally experience space travel, exploration or settlement – and then interpret that idea into an original work of visual art (drawing, painting/mixed media or digital).

We had a huge response from inspired and talented students across the planet and we were truly impressed by the creativity and variety of the artwork. We received more than 4,700 entries representing 45 countries, including 38 U.S. states and territories – our largest contest yet since we began it three years ago! New for this year, we partnered with Artsonia.com, the world's largest online art gallery exclusively featuring student artwork.

Awards and Prizes

The Space Foundation awarded a total of 41 awards to 36 Winners: 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place in each of three media/art categories (drawing, painting/mixed media and digital) for each grade level/age group. One Grand Prize winner was selected for each grade category from among the 1st Place Winners in that group for a total of four Grand Prizes. In addition, the Space Foundation awarded a Space Foundation Achievement Award, which was selected by the Space Foundation graphic arts team.

All winners receive a prize, a ribbon and a certificate. Grand Prize and Space Foundation Achievement Award winners receive additional prizes. Prizes for the 2013 art contest are sponsored by Fisher Space Pen Co.
